Located 1/4 of a mile from the main entrance to Acadia National Park, and miles of walking, hiking and bicycling trails. On a quiet side street, our cottage is a stone's throw away from restaurants, stores and Hulls Cove Beach, where you can beach comb or launch your kayak. At the end of the street you can board the free bus to the center of Bar Harbor. In just a ten minute bus or car ride (or a bike ride through the park), you will find the excitement of in-town Bar Harbor: galleries, restaurants, shops, whale watching, museums, concerts, movies. 1/2 mile in the other direction takes you to Lakewood, a fun swimming hole with clear, fresh water in the heart of Acadia National Park. The house itself features a modern kitchen and a working fireplace. For your convenience and comfort it is fully equipped with cable TV, DSL internet, free long distance phone, and linens and towels. Comfortable and informal, it is a great base for your Acadia vacation. Available Saturday to Saturday.

This vacation spot is in the heart of activities: bicycle, drive, walk or take the free shuttle bus to the ocean shore, lakes, miles of trails in Acadia National Park, horseback riding, whale watching, birding tours, sea kayaking, rock climbing, College of the Atlantic, zoo, classical and modern concerts, movies, restaurants, bars, shops, spas, grocery stores (including a variety of natural and boutique foods), outlets, galleries, museums, and ferries to outer islands and Nova Scotia. Museums include a whale museum, Native American antiquities museum, and a natural history museum. There is something for everyone, and with the free shuttle bus running frequently on a schedule from sun-up to bedtime, and covering Mount Desert Island and parts of the mainland, you can leave your car behind, and travel as a group or independently.

We stayed in this property from 7/26 thru8/2/08. The location was excellent. It was a short walk down the street to Hulls Cove a small rocky beach and 3 mins. to the entrance to Acadia park [Hulls Cove entrance]. PLUSES: It had a very nice kitchen and two bedrooms [plus sleeper in living rm]. Nice gas grill to cook outdoors with.
NEGATIVES: The linens provided for the bedroom with the queen bed didn't fit. They appeared to be for a full!
The washer & dryer in basement were very hard to use, being a rental they should be easy to operate!
Other than a couple of negatives overall it was clean and a good value for the price. Just be aware it isn't a 4 star hotel, just a basic place to use as a home base! Plus you are out doing things in the park or in Bar Harbor mostly.
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Age 55+, Sightseeing
Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review - I agree about the washer and dryer - it was a mistake to put them in the basement and whereas I thought the small Asko appliances would be appropriate, I too, found them difficult to use - the international symbols are equally incomprehensible to all nationalties. Over the Winter I'll bring the laundry upstairs. My apologies for the sheet problem - there was some confusion as to what sheets were where and our cleaner must have just 'made do'. We'll try harder in the future.
