This wonderful cottage is located on a dead end mountain road backing up to the Pisgah Natl Forest, just North of Asheville. Recently renovated including kitchen and bath; there are hardwood floors throughout. Enjoy views of the mountains and listen to the roar of the river from the large deck that the hot tub sits on. There is hiking on our land or in the Pisgah Natl Forest nearby. You can fish in the river below for small trout, directions in cottage to larger rivers. The lawn is beautifully landscaped with different varieties of flowers. When in season, pick fresh blackberries and raspberries in the front yard. Enjoy a book or glass of wine on the wrap around porch. The property is very secluded and quiet, yet close to many fun things to do...including whitewater rafting, gem mining, shopping, restaurants and the Biltmore Estate. It is the perfect vacation spot. The cottage is located north of Asheville, home of the Biltmore Estate, fine dining, antiquing, shopping and live music. It is also convenient to Wolf Laurel Skiing, Hot Springs Spa, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are many outdoor and indoor activities nearby including biking, white water rafting, fishing, hiking, kayaking, a nature center, museums and children's play places. Come enjoy the large Belle Chere festival that takes place the last weekend of July with lots of crafts & arts & live music!

  • We just put new, Nautica, big towels in the bathroom. We supply plenty of towels, washcloths, hot tub towels and even have travel size toiletries in case you forget something.

We even furnish a dog bed!

Notes: Kitchen and living space have open floor plan for comfortable living. There are games, books, movies and CD's for you to begin your great time at Bears Den. Outdoor games include horseshoes, bocci ball & croquet. There are chaise lounge chairs for sunbathing, chairs on the deck for enjoying your company or reading a good book while listening to the sound of the river. The gas grill is located on the wrap around porch. There is many different kinds of wildlife at Bears Den to enjoy; deer, wild turkeys, lots of birds that we feed and once in a while you will spot a bear. Not to worry though, they haven't done anything but eat the berries out of the yard. We will inform you if the bears are active during your stay.

Our Mission: It is our goal to provide you with everything that you will need to make Bear's Den your home away from home. If you have special requests prior to arrival, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. We can also have upon your arrival a romantic basket package for an additional low cost that will be included in your rate. All you will need is your toiletries and food.

Our Story: We own and operate Sunrise Mtn Cottage and Bears Den Cottage ourselves. We only have 2 cottages so that we can maintain a level of expectancy and integrity. We both have a background in hospitality including running a 4 star AAA rated bed and breakfast in Colorado. We have lived in Asheville for 8 years and love it and love our little gems of properties. We fell in love with Bears Den the first time we saw it. It has a magical feel to it...you can almost see the fairies dancing in the flower gardens. :) We sit on the porch for hours watching the birds, butterflies and humming birds and listening to the river below. The house is open and airy with a big picture window looking out into the forest. The cottage is decorated appropriately with bears, flowers and inspirational signs to make your trip the mountains relaxing and enjoyable. There is a good chance of seeing wild life at this property. We guarantee you will have an excellent time.

My wife and I have just spent four nights at this delightful hideaway. The setting is indeed idyllic, with a huge variety of flowers in the garden, which is surrounded by enormous trees and attracts all manner of wildlife - huge butterflies, wild turkeys wandering past, hummingbirds, etc., etc. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing stay, including a luxurious hot tub. A car is essential, and it is true to say that a fair bit of driving is required to visit the many local attractions (The Biltmore Estate at Asheville is a must!), but it is worth it. Owners are great to deal with and were very helpful in making the arrangements for our stay. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting the area who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

You do not have to look further to find the perfect rental for your vacation to the Asheville area. This 2 bedroom home looks rustic from the outside but the inside is immaculate and has all the modern conveniences such as a dishwasher and washer and dryer. We unfortunately could only stay three nights there but did spend a lot of our time sitting on the front porch and listening to the river and the birds. We even had the pleasure of meeting 2 wild turkeys that stayed around for a whole day. The rental is very near the Big Ivy National Forest and we went on the most wonderful hike on Walker Trail. We definitely would come back but hopefully stay for a whole week.

Wonderful Cabin!! We stayed here in Aug for 9 days ...it was myself, my husband, our 4 month old baby and our Golden Retriever. I don't have much time to write today, but...it was a GORGEOUS VERY woody location...also VERY private and quiet. WE loved sitting on the porch in the mornings listening to all the sounds of nature under the large wooded trees...awee...so peaceful. We also loved how close it was to Cashiers and highlands was only a 10 min drive or so. We hiked lots right on the property area and did LOTS od daily walks. The inside of the cabin was very homey, cozy and had all the ammenities that you need. We loved our trip!!! Thanks so much for a wonderful vacation guys!
Recommended for:  Families with Young Children
Owner's Response: We love that people review the cottage and hope it helps future renters in their decision to pick a place. This review is wonderful, however, the cottage is about an hour to Cashiers...maybe less if they took the parkway but not as close as 10 minutes. The cottage is located North of Asheville, where Cashiers is located South West.

A wonderful spot for a holiday getaway! The owners put up Christmas lights around the window, decorations around the house, stockings hanging on the mantle - it was great! The beds were really comfortable, and the cabin was spotlessly clean. The setting is very romantic, quiet, peaceful. It was really fun to be able to sit in the hot tube on Christmas Eve night, and go hiking in the Pisgah Forest on Christmas Day. I was not certain I wanted to spend Christmas away from home - but I would go back here in a heartbeat!
